Can I register for BVN in the UK?
Yes. Dicksons World Services carries out in-person BVN enrolment at 530–532 Kingsland Road, Dalston, London E8 4AH. We capture your BVN details and biometrics, and we also handle BVN updates and other BVN services. Book an appointment or message us on WhatsApp to confirm the documents and fee for your situation.
BVN registration (also called BVN enrolment) used to mean a visit to a bank branch in Nigeria. Nigerians in the UK can now get a BVN without travelling home: in person at a centre like ours, or through the official online Non-Resident BVN route. This page explains both, so you can choose what suits you.
Our BVN services in London
- New BVN enrolment – in-person registration with biometric capture at our Dalston office.
- BVN updates and corrections – for example name, date of birth or phone number details.
- BVN and NIN linking – help making sure your BVN and NIN records line up, so your Nigerian accounts are not restricted.
- BVN problems – a forgotten BVN, mismatched details or a restricted account. Tell us what your bank has said and we will explain the next step.
- Non-Resident BVN (NRBVN) help – if you would rather apply online, we can help you prepare your documents and complete the application.
Because we also do NIN registration, you can sort out your NIN and BVN in one visit.

What is a BVN?
The Bank Verification Number is an 11-digit number that links your identity to your accounts across Nigerian banks. It was introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and is managed by the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS). Your BVN stays the same however many Nigerian bank accounts you open.
The BVN is not the same as the NIN. The NIN is your national identity number from NIMC; the BVN is your banking identity. Read NIN vs BVN: the difference and whether you need both.
Who needs a BVN?
- Nigerians in the UK who want to open or operate a Nigerian bank account.
- People whose existing accounts are restricted because a BVN is missing.
- Anyone who wants to use Nigerian investment, pension or remittance services that require a BVN.
If you already have a BVN, you do not need a new one: it works for all Nigerian banks. If your details on it are wrong, you need a BVN update instead.

Your options for getting a BVN from the UK
Option 1: In person at our London centre
Best if you want someone to handle it with you, have a complicated case (such as mismatched names), or also need NIN services. We capture your biometrics at our Dalston office.
Option 2: Non-Resident BVN (NRBVN), online
Since May 2025, Nigerians abroad can apply online through the official NIBSS Non-Resident BVN platform. You upload a valid ID, proof of residency abroad and other documents, and complete a live selfie check. The CBN announced a fee of US$50, and NIBSS says an NRBVN is provided within 72 hours once approved. We can help with this route too.
Option 3: At a bank in Nigeria
If you are travelling to Nigeria anyway, you can enrol for a BVN at a bank branch there.

BVN updates and corrections
If the name, date of birth, phone number or other details on your BVN are wrong or out of date, your Nigerian bank may restrict your account or reject transfers. We handle BVN updates at our London centre. Bring your Nigerian passport and evidence of the correct details, for example a marriage certificate for a change of surname. If your NIN also needs correcting, see NIN updates so both records match.
Common BVN problems for Nigerians in the UK
"I have forgotten my BVN"
You do not need a new one. Your Nigerian bank can retrieve it, or contact us and we will explain the options.
"My account is restricted"
This often happens when a BVN or NIN is missing from the account, or the details do not match. Find out from your bank exactly what it needs, then tell us. We can help with the BVN side and, if needed, NIN registration or NIN updates.
"My names are different on my BVN and NIN"
Decide which record is wrong and correct that one. We can help with both BVN and NIN updates.
"I'm not sure whether I already have a BVN"
If you have ever opened a Nigerian bank account, you probably have one. Check before enrolling again, because each person can only have one BVN.
Protect your BVN
Your BVN is tied to your bank accounts. Never share one-time passcodes, banking PINs or passwords. Do not pay people who contact you out of the blue offering BVN services. Use a business with an address you can visit, your bank, or the official NRBVN platform.
