At our London centre, NIN registration costs £95.00 for an adult and £80.00 for a child, which covers the NIMC enrolment fee and our centre fee. Before that, you pay the NPC for your birth attestation or foreign birth notification ($80.00 for the foreign birth record). So for most people the full cost is these two payments together.
The exact, current figures are always on our NIN registration fees page. This guide explains where the money goes and how to avoid paying for the wrong thing.
Three fees, three organisations
People are often surprised that NIN registration involves more than one payment. That is because three different organisations are involved:
- National Population Commission (NPC) – charges for the birth attestation or foreign birth notification. You pay this online, on the NPC website, before your appointment.
- National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) – charges the diaspora enrolment fee. This is paid by card at the start of your appointment.
- The enrolment centre – charges a centre fee for the service of checking documents, capturing biometrics and submitting your enrolment.
Why the pound amount can move
The NPC and NIMC fees are set in US dollars. The pound figure you pay depends on the exchange rate at the time. Our centre fee is fixed in pounds. That is why we date-stamp our fee page and recommend confirming the fee before you travel.
How to avoid paying twice
- Do not pay for a second NPC attestation if you already have one. Look for your digitised certificate number in your email first.
- Do not enrol again if you have simply lost your NIN. Retrieval is cheaper and avoids duplicate records. See how to retrieve your NIN.
- Check your details before enrolment. A spelling or date of birth mistake leads to a modification later, which has its own NIMC fee.
- Ignore unofficial "NIN agents" online who ask for payment before you have seen an office or a fee breakdown.
Paying for a family
For a family, each person pays their own enrolment fee: adults at the adult rate and children under 16 at the child rate. Each person also needs their own NPC record. Example for one parent and one UK-born child at our centre: £95.00 + £80.00 in enrolment fees, plus each person's NPC fee.
Is it worth paying a centre fee?
New NIN enrolment cannot be done fully online, because biometrics have to be captured in person, so an enrolment centre is part of the process for anyone in the UK. What the centre fee buys you is a fixed appointment, a document check and help if anything goes wrong afterwards.
A simple budget for one adult
- NPC record: $80.00 for a foreign birth record, or the fee shown on the attestation portal if you were born in Nigeria.
- NIN enrolment at our centre: £95.00 (NIMC fee £55.00 + centre fee £40.00).
- Travel to Dalston, London.
- Optional: printing or photocopies at the office.
- Optional: BVN enrolment or update in the same visit.
Costs that come later, and how to avoid them
- Modification fees for correcting a name or date of birth. Avoid them by checking your details carefully at enrolment.
- Slip reissue fees if you lose your NIN slip. Photograph your slip as soon as you receive it.
- Repeat trips if a document is missing. Ask us to check your documents before you travel.
NIN cost FAQs
Why is NIN registration free in Nigeria but paid in the UK?
First-time enrolment inside Nigeria is free. Diaspora enrolment has an official NIMC fee, and enrolment centres abroad also charge for their service.
Do children pay less?
Yes. At our centre child enrolment costs £80.00 compared with £95.00 for adults.
Do I pay again if my NIN takes a long time?
No. There is no extra enrolment fee while you wait for NIMC to issue your NIN.
