NIN Registration for Adults vs Children in the UK

Man holding a National Identification Number (NIN) slip from the National Identity Management System

Adults and children go through the same NIN enrolment, but the documents differ. Adults use their own Nigerian passport and NPC birth attestation. Children use their NPC birth record and birth certificate, plus a parent's Nigerian passport and NIN, and must attend with a parent or guardian. At our London centre adult enrolment costs £95.00 and child enrolment costs £80.00.

What about 16- and 17-year-olds?

Our child category covers children under 16 and the adult NPC attestation applies to those 18 and over. If you are enrolling a 16- or 17-year-old, message us before booking and we will confirm which documents and fee apply.

Enrolling as a family

A parent without a NIN can enrol at the same visit as their child. That way the parent's NIN is part of the same trip. Tell us how many adults and children are coming when you book, and bring each person's documents in a separate folder to keep things quick.

Which one should come first?

If neither parent has a NIN, the parent's enrolment comes first, because the child's record links to it. In practice we can do both in one appointment if you book enough time.

What stays the same

Adults and children receive the same type of NIN, stored in the same database, valid for life. Both need an NPC record, both must attend in person, and both receive an enrolment slip.
